Eldritch Horror

Location: Boston, Massachusetts, USA

So. I did zero math when booking my last trip and this trip and had no idea how close together they actually were (two weeks, as it turns out). Zero! Math!

I also have zero regrets about it because nothing makes me happier than sitting on a plane. You know this. I know this. SEND ME AWAY!

To Massachusetts I go!

I got out of bed at 3 AM but I don’t think I actually woke up until like 5 AM. I basically became conscious while boarding my first flight. Autopilot, activate!

After 3 flights, many delays, changed gates and general Air Canada shitnanigans, I made it! And to make things even better, Pauline also made it! We flung our arms out dramatically and ran towards one another at the airport like it had been years, instead of a couple of months, and excitedly started chattering about the trip.

Ok ok so, this trip isn’t really a Boston trip, we just happen to be staying in Boston. The real spooky reason we came this far east is to go to Salem for some proper Halloweening. Ever heard of the Salem Witch Trials? Of course you have! All October long there is an epic festival in Salem and both of us have always been into the spooky stuff, so what better way to get into the spirit of the season?

We booked the trip six months ago, which was somehow still not enough time to get decent accommodations actually located in Salem. That fact alone leads me to believe it’s going to be busy. It was almost midnight when we finally arrived at our hostel in downtown Boston, the nighttime skyline brightly lit up on the taxi ride over. We had both separately received advice not to walk alone at night here, which was definitely the vibe I was getting as we drove through town.

That advice and the hour didn’t stop us from ferreting out some giant ‘by the slice’ Boston pizza just around the corner though, which was so big we comfortably shared a single piece. We sat in the restaurant, catching up and making plans for getting to Salem first thing tomorrow.

Here we come, witches!
