Life Happens, Coconuts Help.

Location: Koh Phi Phi, Thailand

I made my way over to the pier first thing for an early tour of the island! Because it’s the off season there were the same number of tourists on the boat as people working on it. It almost feels like a private tour when there’s just a few other people with you. Ahhh the benefits of liking the rainy season.

We sped over to Maya Bay and Pi Leh Lagoon for some sight seeing and snorkelling. I got to see basically the whole cast of finding Nemo under there and even four or five baby blacktip reef sharks! I SWAM WITH SHARKS. Babies but still! When I didn’t have my head stuck in the bright green water, I was staring straight up at the sheer walls of rock all around us. Trees poured over the top and sides, and grew in every little cranny along the whole face.

On the way back we stopped by Viking Cave, but we were only able to look from the outside. Apparently inside there are ancient paintings of different types of boats, some of which include Viking-esque ships. It’s assumed that sailors took shelter there during storms, but now there are endangered birds roosting there so in a bid to help them the cave is closed to tourism. From the outside it was really cool to see the old bamboo scaffolds propped up inside, and the crescent shaped birds nests clinging to the stalactites.

I only booked the tour for the morning so they dropped me back off at the pier and I waved goodbye to the others. I almost immediately got an overwhelming craving for fresh fish, which might have something to do with the fact that all over the island vendors are hawking fresh seafood and you can pick what you want and then they’ll cook it for you! I had a rare tuna steak rolled in soya sauce and toasted sesame seeds that honestly might be one of the best things I’ve ever eaten.

I wandered from beach sunny spot to pool sunny spot to balcony sunny spot, reading and relaxing for the rest of the day. I only paused to get a massage or food (what a hard life) and then got right back to my book.

I plan on wandering the town in search of ice cream and maybe a second massage before heading to bed early again tonight.

Can I just stay on Phi Phi forever?
