Location: Ubud, Bali, Indonesia

Today was one of those days where you meet only your absolute basic needs, and not a tiny bit more. Naps? Yup. Food? Oh yes. Sunshine? Check.

We had breakfast with Elise and Ray again this morning before we had to say our goodbyes, but luckily it sounds like we’ll see them soon! We hung around the hostel for awhile, taking advantage of the clear skies by jumping in the pool and getting our massages outside. I fell asleep on one of those round cushioned wicker beds under direct sunlight and I have no clue how I didn’t burn to an absolute crisp.

We barely moved most of the day until we ventured out to do laundry – only to find out that the laundromat is closed due to a holiday. I tried to find out more about the holiday but all I could figure out is that it’s one that happens every couple hundred days and everyone wears traditional colourful clothing. I want holidays like this at home! There’s so many holidays like this in Indonesia that I couldn’t even get a straight answer from a local! Max and I have remarked often that we wish Canada had more history and tradition and a unique culture like the ones these countries have developed over time. It’s been so lovely to be surprised by the traditions of the places we’re visiting. I mean Canada is a baby in comparison to the ages of these countries but still.

We found a little wood and concrete restaurant that had a big sign saying their special was beef rendang, a dish we loved so much back in Kuta. Ummm easy dinner decision. We inhaled our food and wished we had an endless plate of it… it’s like better beef stroganoff essentially. I guess I have to learn how to cook Indonesian food! We moved to a bakery nearby to grab some cake for dessert, and then to a cafe across the street to do some research for our next destination (read: figure out where we’re going…)

We’ve got one more day in Bali, and we’ve resolved to spend it off of our butts and up exploring the city a little bit.

Stay tuned!
