Location: Cebu City, Cebu, Philippines
I got up early, my ears not feeling great but definitely more manageable. Having slept at least a few hours was extremely helpful for my mood as well. I ate the first real meal I’d had in 2 days, drank a coffee and made my way to the outpatient department.
Again no signs, no direction, and a very confusing system. But managing all of this was so much easier when I could think. (I still can’t hear though which is just making this all so much more frustrating). The power went off a few times again (unsurprising based on the electricity setup here), and the heat was insane, but I was prepared with a fan and a couple bottles of water. I waited for 6 hours, and eventually got to see a doctor who cleaned out my ears, and gave me more drops.
Back at the hostel I ran into Mike! He had also gotten sick a few days ago (pneumonia) and returned to Cebu to seek medical care. Turns out that’s not an uncommon plan when travelling in the Philippines.
I thought I had made a good choice yesterday by booking a room with only 3 other people- but it turns out the girls in there were messy, loud and super inconsiderate. Also it looked like they basically lived in there what with how they had spread out. I switched rooms back to my old one (6 people), as it was a lot more spacious and clean. Hostel life man!
I wanted to try and sleep well tonight (fingers crossed my ear doesn’t keep me up too too long!) cause I know my body will have a way harder time healing when I’m exhausted, so I’m packing it in super early.
The next few days might not be super exciting to read about (sorry fam!) but I guess this s*** just happens sometimes!
On the road to recovery.
