Location: Reno, Nevada, USA
First thing this morning Kat and I sat down to figure out what we wanted to do for our last day in Portland, and realized there wasn’t really as much as we thought! So on a whim we decided to pack up our bags, grab brunch at Hunnymilk and hit the road.

With Taylor Swift back on the radio we headed south. We had no hotel booked, and no real idea how far we were going to go. We had so much fun driving through a ton of little American towns from Azalea, to Weed, to Mount Shasta City. (P.S. The sign entering Weed says ‘WEED Like to Welcome You!’ Just thought I should share that.)

For almost two hours we had the massive Mount Shasta volcano as a backdrop to the chaparral all around us. As the sun went down opposite the mountain, the snow at the peak turned pink and we entered a very thick, and very dark forest…
One of the reasons we were okay to keep driving for so many hours was because we thought we would be on a well lit, heavily traveled freeway.
TURNS OUT NO.
We were actually on this narrow little backroad highway with huge trees on either side right up against the shoulder of the road with zero streetlights. Every so often Kat and I would look at each other and laugh a little nervously. A couple of hours passed and we ended up stopping in Susanville for a quick bite to eat, then hopped on a much busier highway (*sigh of relief*) towards Reno!
I’m writing this post from the passenger seat, while Kat drives drives and listens to country music. It’s pitch black outside and the stars are so bright. We haven’t reached Reno yet, and still have no hotel booked. I can see lights over the hill though so we must be getting close. I am so happy.
