Turtle Travels

Location: Portland, Oregon, USA

Guys guys guys…

Two weeks ago I quit my job. Last week I moved out of my house. On Friday I sold my car.

Today?

I left home! Wait what? I LEFT HOME?

I’M STILL PROCESSING THE FACT THIS IS ACTUALLY REAL.

I’ve been dreaming for a couple of years now about dropping everything and going out into the world with just my backpack and no real plan and it’s finally happening! (Cue freak out holy sh*t I’m untethered).

I tearfully got on the plane this morning to Vancouver after saying goodbye to Max, Meaghan, and my mom. My friend Katisse took a few weeks off to road trip around with me for the first leg of the journey, which I’m really grateful for. At least I can get back into the swing of travelling with a friendly face by my side before I dive into the whole solo situation.

We rented a car and drove to Portland where we had booked a little hipster-y studio apartment, stopping only for some burgers and fries at Five Guys. We listened to Taylor Swift the entire day, talked nonstop the whole way and caught up on all the things we’ve missed since seeing each other last.

I’m writing this from my bed, cozy in pajamas and listening to a loud little antique blue clock tick away. I rarely feel this at ease and the trip has barely started, which I suppose is a good sign that I’m heading in the right direction.

I was extremely nervous about this trip, and leaving was really emotional but now that the adventure has begun I am so excited that I’m practically vibrating.

Stay tuned for what’s to come, there’s no real plan so you’re gonna find out at about the same time I do!

Let’s hope I don’t get too lost.

P.S. We grabbed a few groceries at what turned out to be a bulk store and I remembered a time when someone asked me if I ever saw something and thought ‘Wow. That is just so violently American’. Burgers with glazed donuts for buns? Yup. $10 wine bottles the size of my head?! Yup.
