The Knight Game

Location: Kiev, Ukraine

Two. Thirty. In. The. Morning.

I slept right through my alarm and Ian woke me up 15 minutes before we had to leave. Luckily I had finished almost everything I needed to do the night before, so I showered quickly and was, groggily, ready to go.

We made it to the airport with plenty of time to spare, since Mack was on a flight leaving one hour earlier than the rest of us. He stayed with us as long as he could, leaving only after giving out a round of big hugs.

I slept the whole way from Kiev to Frankfurt and promptly lost everyone at the airport… then found them lined up at the McDonalds (Lands must-do in every country). We found one of the Chinese fighters, Xijie, in the airport and hung out with him for a bit before realizing we needed to board our flight like 5 minutes earlier. We sped through the airport, almost the last passengers to board.

Nine hours to Vancouver.

Middle seat.

Bring it on.

“Harden the fuck up” (Land Pearson, words of wisdom)

I did. I slept for 4 hours, watched some zombie shows and listened to the same 2 songs on repeat for hours. Before I knew it we had arrived in Vancouver where the others let me loose in a mall by myself while they perused bookstores and hung out.

We happily managed to meet up with Mack for dinner before we had to go through security. It was lovely to end the trip with the 5 of us just sitting around and hanging out. I laughed a lot over dinner and felt so at ease. What a wonderful group to spend all this time with. It was a nice reminder that we can do exactly the same thing at home.

It’s been an incredible trip. I know I always say that but I really can’t believe how impactful a week it’s been. Not just with fighting but within my relationships with people.

I wouldn’t change a minute.

Until next time.

Wolf pack out.
