GUYS. IT’S HAPPENING!! Today I’m heading to Ukraine!

Backstory: Almost two years ago I started fighting with the Company of the White Wolf in full contact medieval combat. My friend Ian heckled me for 6 months trying to get me to join, so I finally gave in. After just one practice I was hooked. In May of last year I went to Scotland to support team Canada at the International Medieval Combat Federation (IMCF) World Championships.

I. Was. In. Awe.

Every single fight I wanted so badly to get in the list. I cheered hard and watched rapturously, dreaming about the day I would be able to gear up into my own suit of armour. I arrived home and very quickly measured up and ordered my own kit. Cue super cool training montage. Fast forward to today and I’ve got my suit, I’ve trained all year and I am terrified and excited to finally be competing.

I woke up today and bounded around the house, my excitement growing by the second. The terror of having heavy weapons swung at me temporarily set aside in favour of the fact that I get to escape to a new country with a few great friends and teammates.

I arrived at the airport, gleefully dragging a bag full of shiny armour on one side and a long sword on the other. Ian and Land are my battle buddies for the trip, so get used to hearing their names! We all jumped on the flight to start the first leg of our 26 hour travels.

Ian and Land have spent a good portion of today trying to convince me to join in the battle haircut tradition and get the side of my head shaved. To their extreme disappointment I have yet to agree. (Land: she will). They seem to believe they will convince me otherwise…

I am writing this post from the Vancouver airport where we are waiting for our flight to Munich. It will be a new day when we arrive!

I am beyond excited to be going. I can’t wait to see how all of this will pan out. WISH ME LUCK I THINK I’M REALLY GOING TO NEED IT.
