Pork Soda

Location: New York City, NY, USA / Toronto, ON, Canada

Bonus day! We had some flight change notifications first thing when we got up this morning, so we decided to call air Canada and hang around until check out time to make sure all was good. Once this was settled and our flight was scheduled for 7:30 tonight, we went to over to Chelsea to drop off our bags at a bag drop for the day. Along the way we passed beautiful brownstones and well groomed residential areas, which was awesome since we didn’t get to see as much of that side of New York as we would have liked.

We went back to Chelsea Market, one of our favourite spots on the trip, to pick up a few last minute things and have New York pizza one more time. We drank coffee, reminisced and enjoyed the feel of the market before walking the high line one more time. Even with all the people it felt like the only place in the city that was relaxing. At one point though there was this art display of a tree raining down gummy bears… okay New York. Okay.

Once we picked up our bags and cabbed to the airport we found out our flight had been delayed to 8:30, and 50% of the other flights had been cancelled. Okay cool, cool this is fine.

We sat down for burgers and I ordered a beer, because airport, as we anxiously watched more and more flights get delayed, and then cancelled. Alright we’re fine! It’s O-KAY.

By the time we finished eating and got back to our gate, the flight had been delayed to 8:45, then 9, then 9:15…. two more flights got cancelled. By then ours and one more were the last two flights maybe leaving. IT’S ALL GOING TO BE OKAY STOP PANICKING.

Normally, I’m not too worried at airports, because I actually don’t hate airports, in fact I quite enjoy them. BUT THE TAYLOR SWIFT CONCERT IS ON THE LINE HERE FOLKS.

You may be thinking “well wait a minute Sav you could get on a flight tomorrow!” No luck. Not only are they fully booked from all the cancelled flights today, they were also likely to be cancelled themselves since the storm is supposed to rage all weekend. They told us to be prepared to be waiting for a flight Sunday night at the earliest.

You might also be thinking “Sav just take a bus!” Yup! Great idea! Except that 12 hour night time bus ride was full, and the one for the morning wouldn’t be leaving in time to get us to the concert.

Okay cool so now what? “Hey Sav! Rent a car and drive all the way there!” Also, nice suggestion. Super helpful since all of the depots were closed. We did manage to find an Avis that is open 24 hours, although their stock apparently didn’t include any cars that could be taken over the border.

Flight delayed till 9:45.

We are calm. We are breathing in a controlled manner. We are watching ‘Queer Eye’ to keep ourselves distracted and calling all our available spies to help us.

Finally finally we board the plane, we’re leaving the tarmac as I write this YES HERE WE COME TAYLOR WE’RE MAKING IT WE LOVE YOU.

Thanks New York it’s been fun,

Xoxo,
