Make a Sound and Then Cry About It

Location: Inverness, Scotland

Meaghan: After a super restful five hours of sleep, we got up to explore Perth as it was our last day in the city. The sun was shinning, the flowers were blooming and I was dying for coffee. Breakfast was delicious at a little café on High Street and the waitress was lovely. I seriously don’t think we have met one single unkind local in this country. Everyone is welcoming and happy to talk (though often difficult to understand!).

The other day Sav found some super cute dresses in a shop down the street so since I was around we clearly needed to investigate further. Now we both have cute summer dresses and are crossing our fingers that it is a nice summer in Whitehorse.

Sav: The other day when I was walking around Perth I went to see the Black Watch Castle, but didn’t do the tour- so today was the day! I kind of thought it was going to be a small castle with some interestingly decorated rooms (as castles tend to be) but instead it was a historical museum of The Black Watch- a Scottish military regiment founded in the early 1700’s and still exists today. The information itself was really cool, but what was more interesting was that the volunteer guide was this older Scottish man who was actually a part of the Black Watch for 40 years. He talked about everything with such emotion it made the tour feel so much more personal.

By this time it was getting rather late in the afternoon (as our habit of chatting on park benches takes up a lot of time), so we decided to go grab our bags and catch the train to… DRUM ROLL PLEASE….

Inverness!!

Meag: And what a train ride it was! After a quick cat nap I was wide awake and pumped to get to Inverness. The landscape was absolutely beautiful and so full of sheep. Then we pulled into Inverness where we both instantly fell in love. It’s a little bigger than we imagined and it was fairly lively for a Monday evening! Our hostel window looks out over the river with the hills and church steeples in one direction and a castle in the other. The sun was starting to set as we sat out the open window and took it all in. Doesn’t get too much better than this, does it?

Sav: No it really doesn’t. I had half my body out the window craning around to get a view of the surrounding area and it was breathtaking. I instantly told Meaghan I think we’re gonna want more time than we have here.

We went out for a walk to explore some of the amazing things we could see from the hostel window and ended up at the courthouse buildings overlooking the Loch River.

Story time! There was a few other tourists milling about near us, but at one point a very attractive mans man came up and Meaghan turned around just in time to see him close up. I am not kidding when I say this next part. She was so startled by his man beauty that she made a sort of squeak sound and then laughed and then didn’t stop laughing and then cried. I was laughing so hard at her reaction that I almost cried too- but instead just herded us down the hill and away from the guy and the other people who probably thought we were crazy.

Meag: I have no defence for myself or explanation for what happened other than this – like the Medieval Combat yesterday, you need to see it to believe it.

Sav: We’re staying at an awesome little hostel called Bazpackers. The people are friendly, as mentioned the location is amazing, and the bathroom is weirdly pretty. (Though I’m not sure what’s going on but nobody seems to wash their hands and it’s VERY confusing for me and Meag.) for now we are laying in our squeaky bunk bed, and so happy to be back together.

Think we’ll get sick of saying that?

Probably not.
