Location: Luxembourg City, Luxembourg
Sav: Meags and I woke up at 5:30 this morning, as we wanted to make sure we got to the train station before all the seats filled up. We got some much needed coffee and a few breakfast empañadas before the train, which left two hours later. Once on the train we caught up on blogging for almost 5 hours, as the last few days with Po and Adam and our sicknesses have afforded very little time for it.
Meag: This is the first time we have been travelling just the two of us since Budapest a couple weeks ago. I have loved every minute of getting to know Adam and Po; we all had so much fun together! But I am glad to be just the two of us again. It is so comfortable and easy. Lampshades and all that.
We changed trains in Paris and even though all I saw was two train stations and the metro, it made me want to come back. If I was to imagine what a train station in Paris would look, sound and smell like, it would have been exactly this. The strong French accents, the buskers and the foul smell came together to create a little snapshot just like in my imagination. We got some cookies for our travelling advent calendar, which I proudly ordered in French. It was a brief stop before we hopped on the train to Luxembourg. Aurevoir, Paris!
The train to Luxembourg was sold out but we were able to hop on anyway with the chance that we might have to stand for the whole ride. Thankfully, we did not. We found a couple seats between carriages and played cards for a few hours. Savanna’s excitement to see Luxembourg was palpable and rubbed off on me.
S: We arrived in Luxembourg City in the middle of the evening, ready to crash. A long day of travel didn’t leave us with much energy – but we decided to hit the town tonight anyway and grab some dinner before bed. Good. God. Man. Am I ever glad we did. Every detail so far in the city is adorable. Every fence, every building, every sidewalk and bridge, everything is all gorgeous. We say most cities are beautiful but I think Luxembourg is reminiscent of a Disney fairy tale. We stumbled on a Christmas market which instantly gave us a burst of energy! I am so excited to see it all in the daytime.
M: The market was too cute. We investigated all the food stalls while listening to the band play some Evanescence songs (is that Christmas music here??) before deciding on what to eat. I went for fondue and Savanna tried out some kind of fried potato onion patty. Both were to die for! Still feeling a peckish, we tried some spätzle with gravy, bacon and cheese which was again, you guessed it, to die for. We stood around soaking in the festive atmosphere before grabbing a big chocolate-covered marshmallow and calling it a night.
