Sav: Today Gordy and I had a big touristy day planned going all around Lake Leman to explore what all the different towns had to offer. Gordy being Gordy he couldn’t say no to looking after a kitten all weekend, so we trekked over to the cats residence to feed it.
I do not like cats.
I loved this cat.
Huxley was adorable and friendly right from the second we walked in and did this fun little ‘drinking from a dribbling tap’ thing that was so cute. If there was ever a cat to make me like cats it was this one… probably because it was more like a dog than a cat.
Next we travelled towards Nyon to putter around and see the view from Nyon castle back towards Geneva. Rain had started thrashing down as we left and you could see the ominous rain clouds from our far away vantage point. Coffee in hand we next went to Lausanne.
Swiss towns all have this very good feeling about them. They feel safe. They feel liveable. They are super clean. The houses are all old chalet style and the buildings are understatedly well crafted works of stone with painted numbers alluding to the 1500’s when they were actually built.

By this time we were starting to get hungry. As gentlemen do, Gordy asks me what I’m in the mood to eat. WELL. As Meaghan knows this is a dangerous question because I can literally never decide ever never ever and it’s this giant ordeal until one of us just gets hangry enough and stalks into a place and sits down. I was in the middle of explaining this process to Gordy when he stops dead in his tracks, grips my arm and stares up the street.
No. way.
There’s an Irish pub up the street called White Horse…. WELL OF COURSE WE ATE THERE. We genuinely had zero option. When an Irishman and a girl from Whitehorse come across this bar? Fate. I would like to note that no, we did not order the horse burgers.
In Lausanne we went up to explore the Olympic Museum. The museum was so beautiful outside because there were bronze statues everywhere of different athletes in action. Needless to say we had a lot of fun mimicking their poses – we ended up with a plethora of hilarious photos, lots of which include Gordy looking super confused as to what he was doing. By this time the weather had taken a huge turn and the sun was beating down on us, the rain was far away and we thought it would be a shame to spend our afternoon indoors, so we trained over to Montreux to check out the Chateau de Chillon.

It was probably the most picturesque little castle I’ve ever seen. All the castles I’ve seen here are so tiny! Almost like houses that are just built as castles instead. Chateau de Chillon was no exception. Quaint and adorably perched on an outcropping of rock, with a mini moat, mini bridge and mini dock, it was from here we watched the sun go down over the alps.

We got some hot waffles for dinner on the way home… we had not planned to have dessert for dinner but passing by the cart with the fresh waffle smell wafting by? No choice to be made. Waffles it is. We got a delicious glass of Swiss wine at a place along the river and continued our full day of catching up. I am proud to say I hopped a bus and made it home without getting lost. Though Gordy’s directions certainly helped!

Meag: First of all, I would like to tell Gordy that he got very lucky with finding that White Horse restaurant. If something like that hadn’t come up he was in for a world of pain while Savanna agonized over somewhere to eat. It is a tough process, but if you can get through that with her you can get through just about anything.
Today was the day of the big soccer game between the two best teams in the German league. Compared to other games I’ve seen, this was a very exciting one! The entire thing was intense and fast-paced, with the crowd going wild the entire time. By the looks of it, the atmosphere at this game was miles above the atmosphere at the game we went to in Berlin in October! And that’s saying something, because I thought people were a little crazy at the October game. I still find it very entertaining how the players dramatically throw themselves on the ground with their arms flailing at the slightest touch from an opposing player. I was saying to Tobi how they must have acting classes included in their training sessions because they all do it all the time.
After the afternoon-long excitement of the soccer game we headed over to Jannick and Anne’s, Tobi’s friends, for games of our own! Despite Tobi’s resounding victory last night, he came in second last tonight. Last place was saved for me, naturally. I just can’t seem to get Wizard figured out! It was nice having some company down at the bottom, and we all had a great time.
