Location: Budapest, Hungary
S: We started the day off by heading back to the creepy, dark, old-man filled laundromat we went to last time. Instead of being met by a surly, permanently pissed off grumpy woman, we were met by a 7 foot tall huge Hungarian man named Andrew who was SO happy. He was definitely the nicest and most helpful service person we’ve met in Europe and the whole thing was so hilarious. He happily over explained every detail of the laundry adventure we were about to embark on, and then wished us a happy day! “Two and half hour, two and half hour come back laundry done, laundry dry. Go go. Important things be done in two and half hour. Have great day!”
M: On our way to the laundromat, we spotted a waffle shop, Go Free Waffles, and decided to go back while our laundry was laundering. It’s a little hole in the wall with a couple seats downstairs and a few more upstairs. The motto at Go Free Waffles is “eat dessert first,” a motto Savanna and I wholeheartedly support. We waited upstairs for our magical waffles to be made. The decorations consisted of collages of old postcards, teal chairs, a crooked clock and pictures of people eating waffles all over the tables. The smiliest man made our waffles and brought them up, along with a cappuccino and latte.

We figure that for the amount that we talk about food on this blog we should really be writing a food blog, but my goodness these were the most delicious waffles either of us have ever eaten! We want to remember them when we’re back home eating celery and green beans so they’re going in this blog. The waffles were crunchy but soft on the inside and they seemed almost like they were carmelized! This went amazingly well with the toppings I got – smoked salmon, chive cream cheese, arugula and lemon. Every. Single. Bite. Was. Heavenly.
S: Well next we ordered sweet waffles. Did you expect anything different? I mean come on the place is first and foremost a dessert place. So. Completely acceptable. No justification required for our gluttony.
M: Last time we were in Budapest I bought a not so cute sweater for 50 cents, but the time had come for me to move on with a real sweater. Sav wants me to keep the Budapest Sweater for the memories. I would love to! Sadly though living out of a backpack comes at a cost, and the cost today was parting with my Budapest Sweater. We went to a few stores and I now have a nice warm sweater that unfortunately cost more than 50 cents.
We rushed home so that I could pack before we went out tonight. I’m leaving in the morning to Berlin for a couple days, and Savanna will be going to Geneva on Thursday until we meet up again on Monday in Madrid. Thankfully, this is not a case of Sav and I getting sick of each other and needing space! We have actually gotten closer than ever on this trip. I’m going back to Berlin to visit Tobi, and Savanna’s friend from school Gordy is living in Geneva so she’s going to visit him while I’m in Berlin. We’ve already talked a lot about how weird it is going to be at home when we’re not together 24/7 and neither of us are looking forward to it. She’s my lampshade and it’s going to be so weird leaving without her tomorrow morning.
S: I am so dreading her leaving in the morning! I’ve had a rough go of it knowing she’s going but I think it’s just cause I’m going to miss her so much! She’s right when she said we’ve gotten closer than ever this trip.
We went out to open-mic night and had a couple of beers as one last night out in Budapest for Meaghan. The talent was amazing. Our friend Minion rapped so well – seriously how do people speak that quickly?! Also this band called The Gay Pirates sang some original songs… about gay pirates. It was so hilarious!

M: It felt very appropriate that tonight was open mic night, because our very first night in Budapest more than a month ago now was an open mic night. Budapest will stay with me – in my memories forever and also in my eyebrows for a few more days as I can’t quite get all the glitter off.
