Something About a Penguin

Location: Budapest, Hungary

M: For brunch we went to…

S: Don’t say it.

M: Drumroll please…

S: No please don’t.

M: Cirkusz!

S: *Hangs head in shame*

M: But this time we went to get something aside from just Turkish eggs. Our plan was to feast like kings one day in Budapest, so we got Turkish eggs, French toast and a sandwich to share. We soaked in all the Cirkusz wonderfulness and enjoyed our feast. After trying a few other things we still think Turkish eggs are the best.

Savanna then practiced on me for her future career as braid master extraordinaire and we blogged. We seem to always fall behind blogging in Budapest. I wonder why…

S: Again, worry not Father! I am not going to be a professional hair braider. We decided today was the day to check out fisherman’s bastion, a lookout point / castle. It’s a gothic-style white wall with colourful mosaic roofs and intricate spires everywhere, but all kind of at ground level. It was so gorgeous! Definitely at the top of my list for must see’s. The sun sets quite early here so we hurried up the white marble stairs and watched the sun sink slowly down over Budapest. It cast an incredible orange light on the parliament building on the opposite side of the Danube river, which we always enjoy looking at.

Funny enough we ran into Shivani, with no prior knowledge that she was going to be there! Which worked out well for our evening’s plans…

M: Before Adam left he gave us some 10% off coupons for a noodle place across from the hostel. Shivani, Sav and I walked back from Fisherman’s Bastion to the noodle place and talked about the special friends we have made traveling around. We’ve all been very surprised by how quickly we become close to some people and how attached we are when it’s time to say goodbye.

Budapest is absolutely breathtaking by night down by the river. And with tonight being a supermoon, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to see both of these things on a boat party. Our Budapest brains have not completely taken over, so we got the one free drink ticket instead of the all you can drink ticket.

S: A wise decision, I might add. The boat party in this weather is basically a floating dance club, because it’s too freezing to spend much time on the deck upstairs. Everyone danced and sang and watched the beautifully lit up buildings roll by. I spent a few quiet moments by myself on the deck upstairs, despite the cold. I dangled my feet under the railing, sipped a beer, reminisced about our trip so far and watched the city. I am going to miss Budapest so much. I thought I was attached to this place after being here once… Now that I’ve been here twice it’s a whole new game.
