Romeward Bound

Location: Rome, Italy

S: Today was a very uneventful day. We woke up late, grabbed some breakfast and one last Napoli Coffee and headed off to catch our train to Rome! In Italy you have to book your train seats in advance every time, which has been crappy in a way because we have to pay for seat reservations, but also great because we know for sure that however packed the train is we will always have a seat.

Seeing Rome for the first time felt crazy! It’s the sort of place that only exists in movies right?! Every corner has beautiful old structures and everything is made of marble or stone or built in an aesthetically pleasing way. I don’t think I looked down at my feet all the way to the hostel!

M: Once we got to the hostel and off the busy streets, we took a deep breath and sat down for a little R and R. It was so nice to have a relaxing afternoon! We had a blast in Naples and were really busy, so we fell a little behind on the blog. We took the afternoon to just lounge around and recharge our batteries for all the super-touristy things we have planned with friends here in Rome. We’re both feeling under the weather so this break was great. That being said, Italian cough syrup has nothing on Canadian cough syrup.

S: I have had a constant string of halls lozenge wrappers everywhere to fix this cough we’ve both got! Around dinner time we headed over to the Piazza Venezia to grab some dinner and meet up with Tobi, a friend we met in Germany. It was so great to see him again! Matt (my friend from university who now lives in Germany) is flying in later in the evening so we planned to catch up with him after dinner.

M: It was a very busy square and Savanna got separated from us at one point, with no data and no sense of direction! We found her a little while later and discussed getting a child leash for her as we ate some tiramisu.

S: HA.
