Sav: Today was the day! We went back to Cirkusz for that glorious, glorious coffee. It did not disappoint! John, Meaghan and I trekked over there and all got Turkish eggs for breakfast which sounds horrible on the menu but is actually amazing. It’s like this mix of poached eggs and yogurt and dill and cayenne oil and you dip heavy toast in it… Again, don’t scoff it was awesome.

We made our way over to the thrift store everyone goes to because Meagan wanted a warm sweater…Well every single thing in this shop costs 100 HUF which is equivalent to 47 Canadian cents. Not dollars. Cents. We walked out of there and I felt like we had just stolen something…

Meag: As someone who is always cold, I’m not sure how I left home without a big cozy sweater. Savanna was really encouraging the massive blue and green striped turtle neck, but I found something else cozier.

Wearing my new 47 cent sweater, we headed to the House of Terror with Maddie and John. I was much more prepared for it than I have been for other similar museums we’ve visited. It was still very chilling though. The elevator goes down to the basement super slowly, and has a video of a man describing his job in the executions that took place in the building. The elevator was dark and slow with ominous music, then we got out of the elevator and walked through cells. It gave me goosebumps. The descriptions of how prisoners were held and tortured was sickening.

S: I had a really hard time with this museum in particular because right when you walk in there is ominous music playing and all the walls are painted black. The symbolism and the feeling they try to convey comes through quite clear. The cells in the basement were horrible, and the descriptions not sugar-coated at all. I had a hard time believing that some of these cells held real people once because they seemed so cruel. There was a makeshift cemetery at the end for all the people who were never found, and I couldn’t stay there very long.

M: It took us a bit to get our spirits up again after this museum. We lazed around for a bit, but then had to get going for a beer bike. Kevin came to Vitae to meet us for the evenings shenanigans. The beer bike is definitely one of those “what the hell is this” things we’ve done. It is a giant 12 person bike with a keg and a roof, and we bike around the city checking out the sights and skulling the occasional beer. We made a few stops, like at Hero Square and at a local drinking bridge by some museums. Savanna acted as bartender and DJ for a little while and kept everyone laughing the whole time. We had a blast! And the night only got better from there when we met up with some more people and kind of joined in on a bingo pub crawl! We ended up back at Szimpla and danced our little hearts out.

S: The funniest part of this was that I have never gone to a club in a big knit sweater before… And a down vest. We both had this get-up going and it just provided such endless entertainment.
