Sav: Today we went hunting for the prefect breakfast, and by god, we found it. The hostel has free breakfast but as Meaghan said “f*** toast.” In the Czech Republic food is incredibly cheap and we knew everything on our list today was free sightseeing so we decided to eat anything and everything we wanted. (This doesn’t bode well for the plane door thing I mentioned yesterday). We ended up with really rich coffees, 2 fresh sugar powdered croissants and 2 large egg skillets, all for less than $12 CAD, which we have yet to come to terms with. Every time we eat anywhere the waiter brings the bill and we think there must be some mistake that we got giant beers for $1.50, or steaks for $5.

Anyway, after the breakfast of our dreams we set off in search of a church Meaghan had been wanting to see since day one as it was based on a book she read. I’ll let her field that one….

Meag: Ok so I read this book a few years ago about the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich in 1942 and I forgot that it took place in Prague until the train ride into town. We stumbled across the St. Cyril and Methodius Cathedral on our breakfast hunt so it was easy to find later. I’ve found that the interpretive panels haven’t described anything all that well here, so I was expecting to go home at the end of the day and have to google it. But this place did it well. The display was very detailed, and as Savanna mentioned later, there was no sugarcoating the facts. We spent some time in the crypt and tried to imagine what it must have been like. We could never, of course. But being here helps frame it all so much better. Like yesterday, Savanna waited patiently for me to finish my nerd moment before we moved on. This was one of my favourite places we’ve visited so far. (S: this time I was actually interested though I just read faster than she did!)

We were determined to find the last thing on our must-do list for Prague this afternoon – the Lennon Wall. We set off from the Cathedral and Savanna’s brand new umbrella promptly flipped inside out and the handle broke in half. She struggled across the bridge in the wind and rain with a half-broken umbrella in two pieces, cursing the decision to buy the $3 umbrella yesterday instead of buying a decent one. If nothing else though, it was cheap entertainment for me!

S: It was such a kick in the pants I am normally not a cheap person, but have been trying to be on this trip. I figured why not get a $3 umbrella I can stuff into my bag? It will be fine! I don’t need fancy! Well what I do need is functional. It was less than 24 hours and the thing just totally fell apart. The connectors snapped, the material ripped and the handle broke in half. So. Back to my not-waterproof rain jacket it is. Meaghan had endless entertainment from this today as I draped the broken thing over my head like a sheet. (M: I am still laughing about it.)

We popped into this cute antique style shop for a coffee and continued our search for the Lennon Wall, which we finally found! It was a struggle the last couple of days but I’m really glad we finally did! It was basically just a large wall of graffiti, but the cool part was when we went to add our own graffiti you could see the layers and layers of paint underneath what was currently visible. An ever changing mural, as it were. We took a few fun photos and moved on towards the hostel. It wasn’t late by any means but we had some administrative business to take care of. Hostel booking, train research… You know – hair braiding and the like.

M: Yes, Savanna is in training to be a professional braider when we get home, and I am more than happy to offer up my hair as practice. We went back to the same place we ate on our first night for dinner because it was so delicious. Turns out we weren’t imagining how tasty it was on our first night, it really was great. We did not say a single word until our plates were clean. Savanna pulled out her broken umbrella and declared it was time for dessert. It seems like half the time we step out the door, it is because Savanna has decided it’s time for dessert. Her tastebuds led us to great tiramisu and crème brûlée.

S: Okay first of all I am not training to be a professional braider at all, don’t worry Dad.
Second of all this post is biased! Biased! Meaghan is not one to pass up dessert either this is a completely mutual adventure to chocolate heaven. Just clarifying that business right up. We love chocolate.

Chocolate.

M: And tiramisu. And crème brûlée.
